A laser that takes the rust off

The machine

This is the XLASERLAB X1 Pro, a 700 watt fiber laser. The listing puts six jobs in one box: welding, cutting, rust removal, seam cleaning, underwater welding, and a CNC setup. The laser chips are listed as Coherent.

Rust

Cleaning is one of the modes. The beam lifts surface rust and grime off metal, which is the job people buy it for on an old truck or a shop part. It is surface work. It does not fill a hole that rust has already eaten through.

The weld

The listing says a weld runs about five to eight times faster than TIG, with a small heat-affected zone so thin metal warps less. A dual wire feeder is in the box, and the seam can go up to 7mm wide.

The box

Gun, glasses, a gun holder, lenses, an emergency stop, the dual wire feeder, power and gas lines, and a nozzle kit. The listing says it is built to run from -4°F to 104°F, and the head is described as waterproof for underwater welding. Warranty on the listing is one year.
